Stucco and wall mouldings in commercial spaces

How to enhance your office, restaurant, shop or business premises?

In our homes, mouldings and stucco have long decorated our interiors, underlining the style of a room or adding a three-dimensional quality to the sometimes monotonous volumes of our living rooms. But what about commercial spaces? Can these decorative elements> be used in offices, restaurants, shops or business premises? Absolutely! Modern interior mouldings are an ideal solution for these spaces too.

Stucco and wall moulding

These wall ornaments in a commercial setting are not merely a way to embellish and vary the look of an interior. They are also a practical tool for shaping a brand image and creating a memorable customer experience. Decorative cornices, ceiling roses or wall panels can transform the look of an interior, bringing in a touch of luxury, elegance or modernity, depending on the effect you are after.

Although wall decorations are often associated with traditional interiors, there are now solutions perfectly suited to contemporary trends. Before you commit to buying them, it is worth checking their build quality and technical specifications.

Choosing the right mouldings for different types of commercial space

In busy commercial spaces, the choice of mouldings is crucial to creating an environment that is both attractive and hard-wearing. Stucco, for example, transforms an interior remarkably, but there would be little sense in investing in decorations that need replacing soon after installation. So when selecting decorative elements it is essential to pay attention to their build quality, while bearing in mind where they will go and the purpose they have to serve. Will they subtly underline the elegance of the interior, or will they be used more functionally, to conceal uneven walls? Choosing decorations this carefully will ensure they are not only beautiful but functional too.

Contemporary mouldings to suit every type of interior

These days, when choosing decorative elements for our spaces, we no longer have to choose between durability and good looks. Flexible, contemporary decorative mouldings combine the two, offering products that are both tough and visually flawless.

Polystyrene mouldings, although lightweight and easy to fit, are very sensitive to pressure and scratching. What is perfectly acceptable in a living room may not last long in a commercial space. In that case, go for more hard-wearing options such as high-density polyurethane mouldings. Dartank mouldings, for instance, are made from tough PolyForce material. What is more, the skirting boards and multifunctional elements benefit from the innovative ScratchShield® technology, developed by the company's own engineers, which hardens the surface to the maximum, increasing resistance to mechanical damage and ensuring exceptional durability.

Good to know: In rooms with a high level of humidity, such as kitchens or bathrooms, using water-resistant materials is crucial. Plaster mouldings, elegant though they are, are not suitable for these demanding spaces. On contact with water they can swell and warp, spoiling the look of the scheme. The PolyForce material used to make Dartank mouldings is completely waterproof, guaranteeing a lasting result and safe use in every room, whether a kitchen, a bathroom or an office.

Interior mouldings — designs and finishes

Interior mouldings are not only practical, they are decorative too. Appearance matters as much as function, especially where interior design is concerned. Let us not forget that their main role is to bring out the best features of a space, which makes them a key element when fitting out commercial premises.

For contemporary projects, where rounded walls and irregular surfaces are often part of the picture, Flex mouldings are the ideal solution. Thanks to their suppleness, the Flex cornices follow curved walls perfectly. They can be fitted successfully on rounded walls, making it possible to create flowing, harmonious lines in keeping with the unique architecture of the space.

In low, small rooms, a minimalist approach to mouldings is the best choice. Here, ceiling cornices and skirting boards work perfectly together. Choosing the right dimensions is essential, however. For rooms 250-260 cm high, skirting boards of 7 cm, or 10 cm at most, are ideal. In taller buildings, of 270-280 cm, you can use skirting boards of 12 cm to 15 cm. In very tall spaces, skirting boards from 12 cm up to 20 cm will be the right fit. In low rooms, it is advisable to avoid colour contrasts between the skirting boards and the wall paint — ideally they should be the same colour as the walls, which makes the space look larger.

Wall frames created with decorative mouldings can make a room look longer. Fitting them as a rectangle with a central rail set at about 1/3 of the wall height (85-90 cm from the floor) gives you ideal proportions. If the ceiling is very low, the central rail can sit a little lower, at around 80 cm, or be left out altogether.

Let us not forget the ceiling when designing our interiors. Decorative cornices run around the room with ornamental corners can create an elegant composition. A decorative ceiling rose in the middle of the ceiling adds elegance and style as well. You can experiment with different combinations, depending on the final effect you want.

Another interesting idea is to apply mouldings to furniture, which can give it a character all of its own. It is important to use a high-quality installation adhesive that guarantees a stable, lasting bond. Decorative profiles can then become not only a feature of walls and ceilings, but a stylish accent on the furniture too.

Mouldings in the office: ideas for dividing up the space

Mouldings are an excellent choice for dividing office spaces visually, especially where the floor area is already limited. Using wall panels or slats lets you zone a room quickly, with no disruptive building work. The method suits all sorts of spaces — it can be used to mark out a kitchen area in the case of a kitchenette, or a relaxation area as decoration on the TV wall. The space stays open while being logically divided into functional zones.

Fitting mouldings offers great flexibility — they can be installed in a number of ways, from the full height of the wall, through a transition onto the ceiling, or used as a modern decorative slat across 1/3 of the wall height. Combining mouldings with other decorative elements such as skirting boards, decorative dividing cornices or LED cornices allows an even more personalised space.

Dartank offers a wide range of wall panels and slats in different patterns and colours, adaptable to individual needs and to the style of the interior. White wall panels and slats come in two versions. The first, coated with a special primer that smooths the surface and improves paint adhesion, can be repainted in any colour, fitting the decorative scheme of the interior perfectly.

The second version consists of Premium mouldings, finished with SupremeSatin® satin lacquer in RAL 9003. This option is perfect for anyone who loves an immaculate white.

For lovers of classic style, Dartank offers slats in natural wood shades, which make it possible to create an elegant, functional office interior.

Ceiling mouldings: creative use of mouldings on restaurant ceilings and walls

There is certainly no shortage of creativity in the design of this exceptional café. Cornice mouldings have been used to create decorative frames that bring the interior further to life. What gives the whole scheme its glamorous feel is the beautiful mirrors set inside those frames. It is a simple device, but extremely effective, giving the restaurant a very chic and distinctive look. This inspiration, borrowed from residential interiors, works perfectly here. The cornice used in the design, combined with the wall mouldings, forms a harmonious whole that lends the room a charm all of its own.

The colour of the mouldings also plays a crucial part in the scheme. In this café, the wall mouldings were painted in exactly the same shade of pink as the walls they sit on. Another shade could have upset the harmony of the interior, but as it is, the mouldings sit perfectly with the rest of the decor creating an unforgettable atmosphere in the restaurant. Mouldings in a single shade are an excellent choice for a coherent, striking interior scheme in a glamorous style.

Wall decoration in shops and business premises: an impressive welcome for visitors

Wall ornaments in shops and business premises are not only a decorative feature, but also an excellent way to welcome visitors. One innovative solution is the use of LED mouldings, whose subtle lighting adds elegance and draws the eye — an easy way to highlight branded products displayed on the shelves. Dartank LED mouldings incorporate the innovative LightGuard® technology, which stops the diodes showing through the surface and guarantees a flawless visual effect (with traditional LED mouldings, the inside of the profile has to be covered with aluminium tape during installation).

Wall ornaments look superb not only on the walls, but also on the counter or right by the entrance. The same method of fitting moulding elements that we know from home furniture can be used to decorate commercial spaces. The result is incredibly impressive and takes very little work.

Another creative use of mouldings in a commercial space is subtle decorative frames that can highlight the company name or logo. These elegant, eye-catching frames create the impression of a framed picture, giving the whole interior a unique charm. Thanks to them, a business can display its identity and style discreetly while keeping an elegant, classic feel. Wall ornaments are therefore not only a decoration, but an effective way to stand out in the competitive world of retail.
