Composite or timber?
Composite needs no maintenance, lasts 25-30 years and stays stable even at the poolside. It heats up more in the sun than timber and its shade does not change (no patina).
Premium timber (Canadian larch, thermally modified pine) stays warmer underfoot, breathable, more environmentally friendly, and develops a natural silver-grey patina.
Dedicated fixings
Always use the fixing clips specific to the chosen system (Hartika, 4DECK with its Composite fixing clip + screw for WPC decking 4DECK in packs of 100). Lay on pedestals or on a ventilated concrete slab, with a 4-6 mm gap between boards for expansion. Never a nail driven straight through — it destroys the water-tightness and the warranty.

Composite does not rot and needs no maintenance — ideal around pools and for rental properties. Wood remains warmer, more environmentally friendly and weathers naturally, ideal for private homes.
Iced Maple / Silver Fir / Grey / Anthracite give a contemporary look. Smoked Spruce / Golden Teak / Brown give a warm timber look. Prefer light shades on south-facing terraces to limit heat build-up.
25 to 30 years on average. Slight UV fading in the first few years, then the colour stabilises.
Always the dedicated clips of the composite system you have chosen (Hartika, 4DECK). A screw driven straight through pierces the composite, ruins the seal and voids the warranty.
