Alder is a soft hardwood, free of resin and pleasant to the touch — ideal for saunas and interior joinery. Scandinavian spruce is a northern softwood, more economical, suited to secondary framing and lining.
AB for any visible piece (joinery, furniture, exposed fit-out). BC for concealed pieces or internal sub-framing.
Yes — thermal modification stabilises the fibre and moves the pine up to a modified use class 3, suitable for exposed outdoor use. Service life of 15-20 years with no chemical treatment.
Abachi (or Ayous) is a light, whitish-yellow African timber. Thermal modification makes it stable and moisture-resistant — used for outdoor accessories and saunas.
