Ceiling coving is not purely decorative. It is also an elegant way to conceal the imperfections that so often appear where the wall meets the ceiling.
Why Use Coving?
The joint between wall and ceiling is frequently a problem area: cracks, out-of-square corners, marks left behind by building work... Coving hides these flaws while adding a decorative finish.
Choosing the Right Size
- Small imperfections: coving of 5-8 cm
- Medium imperfections: coving of 10-15 cm
- Large imperfections or cables: coving of 15-20 cm or more
Fitting Techniques
For Cracks
Start by filling the larger cracks with a suitable filler. The coving will then hide any repairs that are less than perfect.
For Uneven Corners
Choose flexible coving, or use a finishing caulk to close up the gaps.
For Hiding Cables
Go for coving with a built-in hollow channel, ideal for concealing electrical cables or LED lighting.
Pro Tips
- Always start with the corners that are most on show
- Use a quality adhesive suited to the substrate
- Allow 10% extra material for cutting waste
