Yes, on any ventilated cladding: it protects the frame from moisture while still letting air circulate. Without a breather membrane, moisture becomes trapped and the timber rots, even when thermally modified.
Hammer-fix anchors or expansion anchors in galvanised or stainless steel, 8 to 10 mm in diameter depending on the load. For a highly exposed façade: ETA-approved anchors.
