Our 2026 exotic hardwood selection
- Tanimbuca (Terminalia spp.) — red-brown South American timber, smooth FAS grade, untreated profile.
- Angelim Amargoso — noble Brazilian resinous species, smooth FAS grade, an alternative to teak.
- Massaranduba — deep red, use class 4, grooved profile in FAS grade.
- Garapa — golden olive yellow, smooth FAS grade, a match for ipe grade in stability.
- Bangkirai (Shorea spp.) — Asian timber, grooved or fluted, FAS KD grade.
- Jatoba — orange-red to brown, smooth FAS grade, very dense.
- Exotic hardwood joists 4 × 6 cm for decking substructures, FJ grade.
FAS grade and certification
All our exotic hardwood boards are FAS grade (Firsts and Seconds) — the highest grade under the American NHLA classification, guaranteeing boards with a minimum of defects. Long usable lengths, clean visible faces.
Responsible sourcing — PEFC or FSC certification on request, chain-of-custody traceability. Strict compliance with the CITES conventions on regulated species.
An eco-friendly alternative: thermally modified pine
For a European bio-based alternative to exotic hardwoods, consider our Scandinavian pine thermally modified by retification: comparable stability, no CITES, no biocide, a service life of 15-20 years at roughly 40 % of the price.

25 to 40 years depending on the species and the installation. Massaranduba and Jatoba are use class 4 (ground contact permitted). Tanimbuca, Angelim and Garapa offer excellent natural durability (class 3 to 4).
FAS (Firsts and Seconds) is the highest grade in timber grading — it comes from the American NHLA standard. It guarantees long boards with a minimum of visible defects. The premium standard for exotic hardwood.
Not for durability — exotic species are naturally rot-proof. Decking oil only serves to preserve the original colour. Left untreated, the wood turns silver-grey within 6 to 12 months.
Yes — thermally modified Scandinavian pine, heat-treated at 200 °C, offers stability comparable to a tropical hardwood with no CITES paperwork, no biocide, at around 40 % of the price.
Yes — they are slow-growing South American species, dense (700 to 1100 kg/m³) and naturally rot-proof. Their durability matches better-known species such as ipé or cumaru, often at a more affordable price.
