A2 or A4 stainless steel?

A2 stainless steel (X5CrNi18-10, AISI 304) — the standard choice for exterior façades, residential decking and conventional structures. Corrosion resistance suited to 95 % of projects.

A4 stainless steel (X5CrNiMo17-12-2, AISI 316) — salt-laden air (seafront), chlorinated pools, or very aggressive exposure. Maximum corrosion resistance.

Why a countersunk Torx head?

The Torx (TX) drive is the professional standard: better torque transfer, less cam-out, longer working life for the driver bit. Use Torx 20 through Torx 30 depending on the screw gauge.

The reduced countersunk head (sometimes called a raised countersunk head) sinks cleanly into the timber without tearing the fibres. The Cut point (SPAX) minimises splitting.

The screw must penetrate at least 30 mm into the supporting batten. For 22-26 mm cladding on a 27 mm batten, choose a 4 × 60 or 5 × 70 mm screw.
A2 is enough in 95 % of cases (residential, standard façades). A4 is required by the sea (salt-laden air) or above a chlorinated swimming pool.
All of these brands offer professional quality. The choice comes down to price, availability and the installer's preference. SPAX Façade remains the long-standing European benchmark for timber cladding.
For standard cladding on battens at 60 cm centres with 14 cm wide boards, allow roughly 25 to 30 screws per m².
