Why cement slips rather than real bricks?

Our slips in antique-brick-effect cement offer several advantages over genuine reclaimed bricks:

  • Lighter (1.5 cm thick vs 5-10 cm) — can be fixed to plasterboard, no extra load on the structure.
  • Calibrated — consistent thickness and geometry for easy fixing.
  • Stable colours — choose your finish (natural/aged/pastel), no sorting required.
  • Frost resistance guaranteed for exterior use.
  • Visually identical to a reclaimed brick wall.

How to fit antique-brick-effect brick slips in 6 steps

  1. Prepare the wall — Flat, dry, dust-free surface. On concrete or blockwork: bonding primer. On an old painted wall: sand it to create a key.
  2. Set out the courses — Mark out a 1/2 stretcher bond (half-brick offset) typical of old walls. Start from the bottom to avoid adhesive runs.
  3. Prepare the adhesive mortar — C2 S1 adhesive mortar to EN 12004 (exterior) or water-repellent adhesive (damp interiors). Mix in small batches (30 min pot life).
  4. Butter the wall and the brick — Double buttering outdoors: U6 notched trowel on the wall (3 m² maximum) plus a thin coat on the back of each brick.
  5. Fix and tap home — Position, press with a slight twist, tap home with a rubber mallet. 5-7 mm spacers for even joints. Check the level.
  6. Point after 24 h — Remove the spacers. NHL3.5 hydraulic lime mortar joint (traditional look) or coloured water-repellent mortar. Brush dry after 1 h to rake the joints back.

Our range consists of cement brick slips with a reclaimed-brick effect (high-fidelity imitation). These are not genuine reclaimed bricks — so they are lighter, consistently sized and suitable for plasterboard. The visual effect is identical to a wall of reclaimed brick.
The main sizes are 6.5 × 27 cm (old brick tiles, rusted bricks, polished old tiles) and 6.3 × 21 cm (English bricks). Thickness 1.5 cm. Sold as individual slips or in packs covering 0.5 m².
Ideal for an industrial New York loft (red or rusted bricks), an English cottage look (natural English bricks), a retro 19th-century style (polished old tiles) or a fun children's bedroom (pastel collection).
Both. Indoors (feature wall, headboard, kitchen splashback), use a standard adhesive plus a coloured mortar joint. Outdoors, use a C2 S1 adhesive mortar, a water-repellent joint and re-apply a water repellent every 5-10 years.
Choose a tinted NHL3.5 hydraulic lime mortar joint (grey or light ochre), brushed back slightly so that it sits just below the surface — this reproduces the look of old walls. A width of 7-10 mm gives a more rustic effect, 5-7 mm a more contemporary one.
