External Cornices

The external cornice is a projecting element made up of mouldings that crowns a wall or a façade. It protects the building from rainwater (by directing run-off away from the wall) and provides a major architectural ornament. An exterior cornice is a projecting element that crowns a wall or a façade, made up of mouldings. It protects the building from rainwater (by throwing the run-off clear of the wall) and provides a major architectural ornament. Cornice families

  • Crowning cornices — crowning the top of the façade, beneath the roof. Majestic, classical effect.
  • Modern cornices — clean, geometric lines for contemporary façades.
  • String courses — horizontal mouldings between storeys, visually separating the levels.
  • Plinth cornices — lower section, at base-course level.
  • Decorative corbel — projecting element beneath the cornice, supporting it visually.
  • Multifunctional profiles — versatile profiles that can be used in several configurations.

Rainwater protection

A correctly sized cornice throws the rain clear of the façade, preventing the runs, black streaks and water ingress that spoil the render. A protective effect on top of the decorative role.

Installation and joints

Installed by exterior bonding with a special adhesive sealant. Corner joints (a cornice turning through 90°) are made either with prefabricated corner pieces or by 45° mitre cut using a mitre box. The joints are filled with adhesive, sanded and painted for a finish with no visible joint.

In proportion to the height of the façade: 8 to 15 cm high for a single-storey house, 15 to 25 cm for a two-storey house, 25 to 40 cm for apartment blocks or prestige villas.
Either with prefabricated corners (a standard 90° joint supplied as a separate piece) or with a 45° mitre cut made with a saw and a mitre box, then bonded and the joints sanded flush.
Yes — a correctly sized cornice (a projection of at least 5-10 cm) throws rainwater clear of the façade. It considerably reduces black streaks and run marks on the render.
